Tips How to Make the Most of Your Trip to Sintra
Now, after seeing these photos of Sintra, are you ready to pack the suitcase?
Due to mild Portuguese climate, Sintra remains a beautiful place to visit for the entire year. I was there in November and then again in September, and it was equally splendid, sunny, green and always magical in both months.
Sintra is easily reached on a one-day trip from Lisbon, check out the available tours here.
Plan Your Trip
If you have more time, however, we strongly recommend you to spend in Sintra 3 days – there is enough to see to fill all this time and more.
Look for one of the charming hotels of Sintra, often located in old-fashioned buildings here.
Moving Around Sintra
The monuments are located on various hills, both walking (though extremely pleasant in lovely forest paths) or driving through narrow one-way roads takes more time than you might think, so you won’t be able to see more than 2 monuments a day – and they are all much worth seeing! Apart from the 5 main ones that we present here, there are many more fascinating historical buildings in the area!
To use your time best, we highly recommend you to rent a car (from Lisbon). You will still have the pleasure to stroll in the gardens and parks, but without climbing the steep hills all day long, or overpaying for mini-taxis and buses. And… take a small one for easy manouvres – the charming old walled roads of Sintra were build for horse carriages of the royalty and noblemen, not for cars, and they are narrow!
