    The grand neoclassical Palazzo di Brera<\/strong> serves as a splendid home for this gallery that occupies 38 rooms.<\/p>\n

    The building originates from about 1150<\/strong> when a monastery was built at this spot. Then it passed through different hands serving various purposes, religious and not. Around 1773 the palace was destined to host several artistic, cultural and scientific institutions<\/strong>. In 1776 by decree of Empress Maria Teresa I to expand the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan was established.<\/p>\n

    Later Napoleon left his personal mark, exhibiting the works he had obtained from the conquered territories, until in 1882 the museum was constituted as independent of the Academy.<\/p>\n
